Northern senators make declaration on confab organised by Jonathan, reveal why it cannot be implemented
- Senators from the northern part of Nigeria are insisting that President Buhari cannot be forced to implement the report of the national confab
- The senators argue that if former President Goodluck Jonathan could not implement it, then it is not fair to ask Buhari to act on it
- They claim that those agitating for the implementation of the report are not aware of its details
Nigerian senators from the northern part of the country have declared as unfair the call on President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the report of the recent national conference.
The confab was organised by former President Goodluck Jonathan and the senators said if he could not implement the report, then it is unfair asking Buhari to take action on it.

The senators, who spoke in Katsina on December 12 at a two-day retreat, argued that Buhari was neither privy to the underlying philosophy of the conference nor its primary objectives.
Abdullahi Adamu, who chairs the Northern Senators Forum (NSF), claimed that Jonathan, who convened the conference, never believed in it.
Daily Trust reports that Senator Adamu said most of those clamouring for the implementation of the report do not know what it entails.
“The report is a fallacy borne out of ignorance and there is nothing radical about it.
“It actually fell back on the status quo. It is mealy-mouthed about fiscal federalism.
“At the conference, the clamour for state police was deafening, yet what did the conference say about it?
“It merely recommended what it called second tier policing in the country with the modalities for implementation worked out between the centre and the constituent units of the federation.
“We must also interrogate the legitimacy of the conference itself. Was it convened in accordance with the extant laws of the land?

“Was it intended to usurp the constitutional functions of the National Assembly?
“The time has come for the senators to make their views known as their silence should not be seen as a sign of weakness on issues. It is as if we are sleeping on duty,” he added.
NAIJ.com earlier reported how Ike Ekweremadu, the deputy Senate president of Nigeria, recently insisted that the country, as currently constituted, is not working and needs urgent fixing.
Ekweremadu urged the different regions in the country to come together and agree on how to fix it.
