Federal government to complete Lagos-Ibadan rail December 2018 - Amaechi

Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation, on Tuesday, December 12, said the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail line would be completed in December 2018.
The minister made this known while inspecting the ongoing Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail line in Papalanto, Ogun state.

Amaechi during the inspection said he was impressed with the level of ongoing construction work, stating that the contractors were facing some challenges which is slowing the pace of work.

He also said that the process bridges in Jibowu and Costain Lagos state would be demolished, adding that the ministry had gotten the right of way.
He said: “There is no way you can do construction without challenges in different forms and kinds and you have to address them.
“The challenges are not even here, they are worse in Lagos. We are dealing with water, drainage, gas, power and the military.
“The only thing we are dealing with here is just gas and a few power transmission lines and we can manage that.
“I was on a tour with the Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode, and we have agreed that the two bridges will come down, our target is December 2018.”
The minister said that two locomotives and 10 coaches had arrived the country which President Muhammadu Buhari will commission this December.
He also noted that they want to make sure the people travelling from Kaduna to Abuja are able to use the new coaches.
NAIJ.com previously reported that Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation, on Monday, August 8, said the Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri standard gauge rail lines would start commercial operation in June 2018.

The minister made this known while inspecting the ongoing rail project in Warri, Delta state. He said that the federal government had instructed that the project must be completed by the first quarter of 2018, which was included in the budget.
He stated that the project was first awarded in 1987 and abandoned for over 30 years which would have been the first standard gauge in Africa.
