Local government debt and labor income share: Evidence from China

Plos.org

by Yuanlin Wu, Cunzhi Tian, Lifang Li

This study employs a CES production function to construct a theoretical model of labor income share and uses a two-way fixed effects model to test the causal effects of local government debt (LGD) on the labor income share of enterprises. Local government debt governance policies are utilized as exogenous shocks, and a DID (Difference-in-Differences) model is applied for endogeneity testing. The results have passed a series of robustness checks. The findings... Читать дальше...

Disentangling the latent space of GANs for semantic face editing

Plos.org

by Yongjie Niu, Mingquan Zhou, Zhan Li

Disentanglement research is a critical and important issue in the field of image editing. In order to perform disentangled editing on images generated by generative models, this paper presents an unsupervised, model-agnostic, two-stage trained editing framework. This work addresses the problem of discovering interpretable, disentangled directions of edited image attributes in the latent space of generative models. This effort’s primary objective was... Effective coverage of newborn postnatal care in Ethiopia: Measuring inequality and spatial distribution of quality-adjusted coverage

Plos.org

by Aster Ferede Gebremedhin, Angela Dawson, Andrew Hayen

Neonatal health is a significant global public health concern, and the first two days of life are crucial for newborn survival. Most studies on newborn postnatal care have focused on crude coverage measures, which limit the evaluation of care quality. However, evidence suggests a shift towards emphasising effective coverage, which incorporates the quality of care when measuring intervention coverage. This research aimed to assess the... Mental illness and help-seeking behaviours among Middle Eastern cultures: A systematic review and meta-synthesis of qualitative data

Plos.org

by Farah Elshamy, Ayah Hamadeh, Jo Billings, Aisha Alyafei

Background

Western literature has long explored help-seeking behaviours related to mental health issues. However, this has been relatively neglected in the Middle East despite an increase in mental health needs in the region. The purpose of this review was to conduct a systematic review and qualitative meta-synthesis exploring help-seeking behaviours related to mental health issues in the Middle East.

Methods

We conducted... Читать дальше...

Baseline eGFR cutoff for increased risk of post-contrast acute kidney injury in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention for ST-elevation myocardial infarction in the emergency department

Plos.org

by Je Sung You, Junho Cho, Hye Jung Shin, Jin Ho Beom

Acute myocardial infarction is an acute-stage disease that requires prompt diagnosis and treatment. Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is a high-risk factor for post-contrast acute kidney injury (PC-AKI). This retrospective cohort study analyzed the data of 754 patients with STEMI who underwent pPCI and were integrated into the Fast Interrogation Rule for STEMI critical pathway program between 2015 and 2019. Developing similarity matrices for antibody-protein binding interactions

Plos.org

by Sumaiya Islam, Robert J. Pantazes

The inventions of AlphaFold and RoseTTAFold are revolutionizing computational protein science due to their abilities to reliably predict protein structures. Their unprecedented successes are due to the parallel consideration of several types of information, one of which is protein sequence similarity information. Sequence homology has been studied for many decades and depends on similarity matrices to define how similar or different protein sequences are to one another. Читать дальше...
