Strictly’s Gorka Marquez hints he should have stood in for Neil Jones NOT Kevin Clifton after pro’s last minute injury
STRICTLY’S Gorka Marquez has hinted he should have stood in for Neil Jones NOT Kevin Clifton after he suffered a last minute injury.
Viewers were shocked to see Kevin alongside Neil’s celebrity partner Alex Scott on tonight’s show, with hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman revealing Neil had injured himself in rehearsals and was unable to perform.
Kevin – who left the competition with his celebrity partner Anneka Rice earlier in the competition – stepped in at the last minute, quickly learning Neil and Alex’s Couple’s Choice routine to the Ghostbusters theme tune.
But after the show aired, many of Gorka’s fans took to Twitter to complain about the fact the Spaniard – who wasn’t given a celebrity this year – hadn’t been chosen instead of Kevin.
It appears the 29-year-old pro agreed with them, retweeting lots of the comments for others to see.
One read: “So we’re all in agreement that it should be @gorkamarquez1 dancing tonight, right? Like the whole point is that him & @GrazianoDiPrima are there to step in as replacements if one of the other male pros get injured! #Strictly.”
Another said: “So @bbcstrictly bring back #kingkev even though he’s had a dancer this series and got voted off. It’s not on #forks is trending so shows you they e got it wrong.
@gorkamarquez1 or one of the other backing dancers, even a female.”
A third tweet Gorka shared agreed, with the viewer writing: “Couldn’t we have @gorkamarquez1 as a stand in.”
Others were still furious about the fact Gorka wasn’t in the main line up this year, the first time it has occurred since he joined the show in 2016.

Neil, 37, wasn’t the only person who was forced to miss tonight’s show due to injury, as Paralympian Will Bayley was also ruled out of performing after an accident in rehearsals.
The 31-year-old and his pro-partner Janette Manrara were supposed to be dancing a jive, but the table tennis player suffered a devastating fall, and feared he had broken his leg.
Thankfully he hasn’t, but was told by the show’s medics there was no way he could perform.
However Janette later told viewers Will was at home resting and hoped to return to the competition next week.
