‘Still not quite sure’: BBC Sport pundit predicts Norwich v Man United
Mark Lawrenson is backing Norwich City to frustrate Manchester United and claim a 2-2 draw at Carrow Road in their Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils head into the game after having earned plenty of praise for their battling display as they became the first team to take points off Liverpool FC this season with a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last weekend.
Manchester United also ended their 11-game winless run in all competitions on Thursday night when they claimed a 1-0 victory at Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League thanks to Anthony Martial’s penalty.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will now turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their important clash against Norwich this weekend.
The Red Devils have only won one of their last five games in the Premier League, losing two and drawing two of their most recent five top-flight outings.
Although former Liverpool FC star Lawrenson says that Manchester United are “expected” to win Sunday’s clash, he feels that they could well slip up against the Canaries.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Manchester United deserve credit for their performance last weekend – they dealt with Liverpool’s full-backs as well as any team has done this season so far.
“But I am still not quite sure they can build on that display and win a game like this, where they are expected to take three points.
“Norwich have had two good home wins already this season, and picked up their first point on the road against Bournemouth last weekend, without conceding too.
“The Canaries have been struggling for fit centre-backs so that was a very good performance against the Cherries, and I would not be surprised to see them give United a good game too.
“I am not going to go as far as saying I think Norwich will win, though.
“They are another team that I have not tipped to get a victory so far this season, but they are going to have to wait at least another week for that to happen – which is probably good news for them.”
Manchester United are aiming to try and break back into the top four this season after they finished sixth last term.
They will return to League Cup action with a trip to Chelsea FC in the fourth round on Wednesday night next week.
