‘They might slip up’: BBC Sport pundit predicts Liverpool FC v Tottenham
Mark Lawrenson is backing Tottenham Hotspur to frustrate Liverpool FC and claim a 1-1 draw from their clash against the Reds at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Merseyside outfit head into the game looking to try and return to winning ways in the top flight after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United last weekend.
Liverpool FC trailed Manchester United after Marcus Rashford’s opener in the first half at Old Trafford last weekend, but Adam Lallana netted a late equaliser for Jurgen Klopp’s men to seal a point.
The Reds then bounced back to winning ways in midweek with an impressive 4-1 win away at Genk on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
Tottenham, meanwhile, head into the game looking to claim some vital points to help them climb the Premier League table.
Spurs headed into this weekend’s round of fixtures in seventh place in the Premier League table and having won just two of their last five games in the top flight.
Former Liverpool FC star Lawrenson is backing Mauricio Pochettino’s men to cause the Reds problems at Anfield on Sunday and he is tipping the Lilywhites to head back down to London with a point on Sunday night.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “I am at Anfield for this game and think it is a tricky fixture for Liverpool to negotiate.
“In the past few seasons, while Mauricio Pochettino has been in charge of Tottenham, the Reds always know they are going to get a game against Spurs.
“Their last visit here, when Tottenham only lost to a late Toby Alderweireld own-goal, was an example of that. Spurs had been the better team in the second half.
“Nobody is expecting that to be the case this time, after the way Tottenham have played in the past few weeks, but I still think they have got it in them to spring a shock.
“They have got some really potent attacking players and it would not surprise me if they are close to their best again in this game after a series of disappointing results.
“At the same time, I am a little bit worried that if Liverpool are below their best again, like they were against Manchester United when they did not quite get the different areas of their team right, then they might slip up.”
Liverpool FC are aiming to win the Premier League title this season after finishing a point behind champions Manchester City last term.
