Piers Morgan says GMB co-host Susanna Reid was in ‘the grip of fear’ that ‘online mob’ would force her off show
PIERS Morgan claims his Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid was in ‘the grip of fear’ that an ‘online mob’ would force her off show after his shock exit.
The 56-year-old journalist took part in an hour-long interview with US television host Tucker Carlson to discuss his departure from the ITV show on March 9.
Piers sensationally quit Good Morning Britain in the wake of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The next day, Susanna, 50, issued him a frosty farewell which he later admitted hit him hard.
During his interview with Tucker, Piers gave his thoughts on why she had reacted that way.
He said: “Susanna, my co-host for five years, is a good friend of mine.
“Honestly I think she was in the grip of fear, I think she was fearful that if she went too far saying nice things about me, the same thing might happen to her.”
He continued: “There would be a huge Twitter pile on, this is how it works, there was no real mainstream media interest in what I said on that Monday show.
“It was all being driven online by a very orchestrated mob.”
Piers previously wrote in his column for the Mail on Sunday that watching the first episode of GMB following his sudden departure and Susanna’s speech hit him hard.
Of her frosty farewell, he said: “Jeez, even my real ex-wife talks more fondly about me than that (and, in fact, did so overnight in a very supportive message).”
Piers told how Susanna called him for a “clear the air chat” and said sorry for her cool tone.

She then promised they would go for a celebratory lunch where she would break her two-year alcohol abstinence.
Piers wrote: “She apologised for the tone of her chilly goodbye, which was for all the reasons I suspected, and I apologised for leaving her in the lurch so suddenly.
“It was a good conversation, and we agreed that when the dust settles, we’ll have a long lunch to celebrate five extraordinary years.”
