[Track and Field] Outdoor Track & Field Falcons set standards at Shocker Spring Invitational
WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Track & Field Falcons continued the outdoor season by competing at the Shocker Spring Invitational this past weekend at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University.
Caroline Giles kept putting out good results in her senior campaign by hitting the NAIA B Standard in the Women's 3,000m Steeplechase with a mark of 11:29.27 that is the top time in the KCAC and third best in the NAIA.
Another standard was set on the women's side as Jaylen Knight (57:20) came in as the runner-up and nailed the NAIA B Standard in the Women's 400 Meter run.
For the Falcon Men, Damon Scott shined in a runner-up finish in the Triple Jump (13.87m) and a top-five showing in the Long Jump (6.67m). Scott's mark in the Triple Jump is tops in the KCAC this season and he's now fifth in the league in the Long Jump.
Moria Shaw (1:07.04) also posted a top-three finish in the 400 Hurdles for Friends.
The Falcons are now gearing up to host their annual Friends University Spring Open this week (Mar. 30-Apr. 1) at Adair-Austin Stadium.
Friends University Track & Field head coach Henry Brun on this past weekend's Shocker Spring Invitational
"This was a great overall weekend for our group. We had some really promising season-opening performances from just about everyone who competed. We hit the reset button on training after we concluded the indoor season, so everyone got a much-needed break and we are just now getting back into the intensity of typical training. I can honestly say that we look refreshed and eager to jump into the outdoor competition season. Much of the team is picking up right where they left off to end the indoor season, which means the next few weeks could be a lot of fun in seeing some progress leading into KCACs and the NAIA meet."
