2023 Masters Rd1 Recap for Mateo and Moore
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Razorback senior Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira and former Razorback All-American Taylor Moore completed their first rounds at the Masters Tournament Thursday.
Moore posted a 1-over par 73 and Fernandez de Oliveira came in a 4-over for the day.
Moore was 2-over after bogeys on holes 5 and 6, but got back to even with birdies on holes 8 and 11. After a bogey on the world-famous, par-3 12th, Moore birdied hole 17 but gave that shot back on the par-4 18th for his round of 73.
Fernandez de Oliveira carded a 76 but actually beat one of his playing partners, two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson (77). The nerves on the first tee got the better or Fernandez de Oliveira as he started with a bogey. However, he quickly recovered with a birdie on the par-5, 2nd hole. Bogeys on holes 4, 7, 8 and 12 moved him to +4 for the day. The Argentinian conquered the newly-designed and lengthened 13th hole with a two-putt birdie. He dropped a shot on the 17th before finishing with a par on 18. He is currently fourth among the seven amateurs behind Sam Bennett (-4), Harrison Crowe (+3) and Ben Carr (+3).
The same groups will play together on Friday for round two.
– Moore is set to tee off at 7:12 am (CT) with 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel and amateur Aldrich Potgieter.
– Fernandez de Oliveira is set to tee off at Noon (CT) with Watson and Seamus Power.
