My best fly repellent tip is 100% free – all you need is a clear plastic bag to scare them away
A CALIFORNIAN herbalist has shared his novel tip to deter pesky flies.
His fly repellent is 100 percent free – all you need for this bug blocker is a clear plastic bag.
Even better, this tip is non-toxic with no chemicals present.
Furthermore, it is fly-friendly, sending these nuisance insects on their way, completely unharmed.
The idea of a “Natural fly repellent” came courtesy of Healing Arts Apothecary (@healingartsapothecary).
This gentleman adds “healer” to his list of activities, and has an enormous TikTok following.
At the last count, he had over 503,000 followers and another 4.4 million likes.
In this post, he shared his novel take on a natural fly repellent. Judging by the comments section, it certainly seemed to work.
“Did you know that there’s a natural way to deter flies?” he asked his viewers.
But he said he could not take full credit for his hack: “I learned this trick after the Haiti earthquake,” he explained.
The deterrent was incredibly easy to put in place requiring just two elements.
“Now a simple bag full of plastic and in a clear bag is what does the trick,” he said, filling the bags up with water.
There was a reason why this method worked so well, he said.
“You see, the fly bases movement by light, and a refracted light coming through the water in the plastic bag confuses the fly.
“It causes him to move on to another place that’s much easier on the eyes.”
The post has captured the imagination of his followers, attracting over 16,000 likes and hundreds of comments.
Commenters confirmed the effectiveness of his tip.
“My grandma always had a bag of water over her doors to keep the flies out,” recalled this fan.
It worked for businesses too, said this viewer: “A butcher near me used a similar trick. He used goldfish scales in water.”
It was a similar tale for this person: “I’ve seen BBQ places in Texas do this and it works.”
The final commenter expressed gratitude for the hack: “Very good tip, especially at night when the buzzing keeps you awake,” he said.
