I’m a car lawyer – you could end up in jail if you use fake number plates to avoid ULEZ fines
A CAR lawyer has revealed you may be caged for using fake licence plates to avoid ULEZ fines.
Legal whizz Nick Freeman criticised the “foolish” decision to slap doctored number plates on their vehicles.
Nick, known as Mr Loophole, stressed that getting behind a vehicle with a false number plate could carry very serious consequences.
It comes after a police report found that as many as two million drivers may be trying to evade speed cameras.
Mr Freeman told GB News: “Illegal. If you tamper with your number plate in any respect to try and avoid the consequences of going through a camera… If you’re caught you will be interviewed, you will be charged and you can expect a custodial sentence.”
He added: “I think people don’t realise how serious number plate tampering or being dishonest in relation to simple matters such as who is driving is.
“The courts deal with it very strictly because we are reliant on robotical policing now.
“The public are expected to go along with it.
“In my view obviously it would be foolish to tamper with a number plate because they are going to land themselves in very deep water.
“The cameras are literally everywhere and the speed limits are coming down to a level the motorist doesn’t understand.
“We’re living in a decriminalised society for everyone but the motorist.”
Government advisers have implied that controls over the sale of fake number plates were too lax, the Telegraph reported.
Former surveillance camera commissioner Tony Porter has called for businesses selling number plates to follow a strict new certification system to clamp down on the act.
It comes after Nick Freeman revealed three little-known loopholes that can help you challenge ULEZ fines and win.
Mr Loophole, gave out his handy tips as the hated levy expanded to cover the entire Greater London Area today.
