I’m 41 & have found the best £2 anti-ageing product that’s done wonders for my skin – everyone thinks I’ve had Botox
AN AGE-DEFYING woman has proven that you haven’t got to fork out on pricey procedures and luxurious face creams to help turn back the clock.
Instead, 41-year-old Maggie Rose has credited a £2 product for doing “wonders” for her skin – and she believes it’s the “crunchy girl’s Botox.”
In a clip shared to TikTok (@maggieroseadvocate), the timeless beauty can be seen showing off her glowing skin as she raves about the anti-ageing benefits of castor oil.
“So I heard someone on this app the other day refer to castor oil as the crunchy girl’s Botox and I 100% agree,” she says.
“I turn 41 next month and it has done wonders for my skin.”
However, she then goes on to let her social media followers in on a little secret – and admits she doesn’t use it straight.
“The part of what castor oil is so good at doing is delivering nutrients down deep into the skin,” Maggie explains.
“It’s able to penetrate deeper into the body and into the skin.

“That’s why a lot of holistic and functional medicine practitioners use it for things like ovarian cysts…because of its ability to go deep.”
She goes on to say how she uses a product called ‘Lalena’s Oil,’ which has castor oil but also black seed oil and rosehip.
“Black seed oil has been used for thousands of years and is known for its benefits for the skin,” she explains.
“Rosehip is a natural source of Tretinoin – mind you it’s not as strong as the prescription stuff you can get from the dermatologist, but it is a natural source.
“When I tell you I wouldn’t be caught without this stuff, I mean it – it absolutely works!”
The post has since gone viral, racking up a whopping 682k views and several comments – with very mixed responses.
“I used pure castor oil on my face two days in a row and got a zit. I’m in my 50’s,” wrote one.
A second penned: “My husband is a plastic surgeon and LOVES castor oil.”
A third asked: “What am I doing wrong? Have been using it for three months.. no changes.”
Meanwhile, a fourth noted: “I mix rosehip oil and castor oil into my face lotion at night and my skin has been so plump, clear, and glowy – my wrinkles are disappearing too.”
Another added: “Castor oil completely changed my skin my face is like baby smooth skin now.”
Speaking exclusively to Fabulous, Ruby Jo Lomax, founder of hair, beauty and aesthetics education centre, RJL Education, agrees that there are may benefits of using castor oil.
“Castor oil is rich in fatty acids and acts as a humectant – which means it can trap water in your skin,” she explains.
“Try layering a small amount of castor oil on top of your usual moisturiser for an extra boost of hydration.”
The beauty expert goes onto add that while studies on castor oil are thin on the ground, there have been some “promising results.”
She explains: “One study shows that the ricinoleic acid in castor oil may be anti-microbial – which can help with blemishes and acne.
“Studies also suggest that castor oil has anti-inflammatory properties, which could assist with skin complaints such as eczema, rosacea, dermatitis, keratosis pilaris, and psoriasis.”
However, she warns that although castor oil may appear to be a silver bullet for those who suffer from acne or are prone to breakouts, in reality, slathering a thick layer of oil onto oily skin can clog your pores and lead to further breakouts.
“So if you’ve got oily skin, use caster oil sparingly. While its anti-inflammatory properties will bring down the redness in your skin, it’s a heavier oil, so start by using once or twice a week and see how you react,” she advises.
“With castor oil on the thicker side – thin it out to make it more practical in its application by mixing it with a carrier oil – such as coconut, olive or almond oil.
“Plus, castor oil is odourless, so you can mix with a secondary oil for an enjoyable scent of your choice.”
