Home owner transforms basic IKEA cabinet into plush wine bar using simple hack – and everyone loves it
A HOMEOWNER has won praise for transforming their simple IKEA cabinet into a plush wine bar.
And all it took was a simple hack that involved flipping it upside down and installing some racks.
Social media user Homehacks, aka @homehackideas, regularly shares clever and quirky tips and tricks on how to make the most of your home and interior purchases.
In one of their latest posts, they revealed they’d got their hands on an IKEA Kallax storage unit.
The simple black design features four square compartments and is most commonly used for storing things like shoes – but Homehacks had another bright idea.
Instead, they decided to make it into a cool bar, featuring all their favourite wines and an assortment of glasses.
In a video post called ‘how to turn your IKEA cube into a wine bar’, they then filmed the step-by-step method, showing how it can be done in no time at all.
First up, they turned the storage unit upside down so that they could easily install two under cabinet wine racks, also available to purchase from IKEA.
Using an eclectic screwdriver, they secured them in place so that the racks were ready for the wine glasses.
The next step was to spin the unit back over and place the selection of glassware on them – from prosecco glasses to red wine glasses.
Then, in the bottom two compartments, they added some stylish wicker baskets where you could keep anything from extra glasses to bottles of wine and bottle openers.
But they weren’t finished there, as they took the opportunity to style the top of the newly formed bar.
They filled an on-trend wooden tray with bottles of red wine and then turned their attention to kitting it out with some accessories.
Homehacks opted for a white candle and faux houseplant to give it that more sophisticated look.

After they unveiled the finished look, it didn’t take long for fellow social media to say they couldn’t get enough of the transformation.
Under the video, which has received almost 50k likes on TikTok, many even said they would be using the idea as inspiration for their own space.
One person wrote: “Not a want but a need.” Another added: “Nice idea!”
While a third said: “Ohh I really love this.” And a fourth added: “Amazing!”
Meanwhile, other TikTokers said it was a great idea that anyone could adapt depending on their favourite tipple.
Another tagged their partners as they said, “A gin bar?!”
