I saved £60 per year on my heating bill by a tiny change I made to my boiler – and my home is still toasty
IT seems every time we watch the news or turn on the TV, people are only talking about one thing: soaring heating bills.
Whilst we might not be able to stop providers from charging a fortune, one thrifty mum has found an easy way to save up to 3 per cent on her bill – just by pushing a button.
Her simple hack will be a lifeline to many, as CheckaTrade has gathered shocking data on how much Brits spending keeping their homes warm.
Keeping the radiators on overnight can cost up to £13.44 per night, based on a standard 24kW boiler running for eight hours.
For those that haven’t done the maths, it means most people are spending an eyewatering £94.08 per week to heat their homes.
With temperatures plummeting, you might want to use Hannah’s simple hack and save a little cash over the festive season.
Better known as @adventuresofthewests on Tiktok, the mum-of-two showed just how easy it was to reduce your bills – with a click of a button.
“Simply turning down the temperature on my combi boiler by one or two degrees, can save me around £60 a year,” she explained to her followers, showing how she easily reset her boiler.
In the caption, the influencer explained that she’d been shown this hack by her plumber who said she could save upto 3 per cent on her annual bills just by making the switch.
For those who are worried about feeling the cold, Hannah said that she hardly notices the difference in her home and it doesn’t affect her water temperature either.
“This doesn’t even affect the temperature in my home, it just means the radiators take a tiny bit longer to heat up,” the content creator revealed.
If you are still looking to save even more on your bills, you might be able to turn off the thermostat altogether after one woman confessed that she’d not turned it on in six years.
Sharing her hacks on KT, the influencer shared how she keeps her home warm without turning the heat on.
Just like our mums did when we were little, she urged her Tiktok followers to wrap up and claimed that ‘layers are your best friend’.
“You don’t like how cold it is, put something else on,” she said. “Still too cold? Put something else on!”
The Tiktoker, better known as @hatch.green.chile.addict, also said it is a good idea to triple layer socks and trousers – even saying that people could add leggings under jeans.
“Also, it’s ok to wear a onesie!” she joked.
The content creator also used heating pad and blankets to stay cosy, which cost her just pennies per hour – unlike a conventional boiler.
Perhaps her best hack though was drying clothes just by using your bedding, with her telling viewers: “No dryer? No problem! Stick everything under the covers and everything will be warm in the morning.”
With these simple hacks, you should be able to stay cosy until things finally start to warm up.
