'These are violent people': Capitol cop shows no mercy for J6 rioters in MSNBC rant

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on the day before the anniversary of the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump, one of the Capitol cops who was brutally attacked on that day showed no mercy for his assailants when asked about that day.

With host Willie Geist prompting him to react to Trump labeling them as "hostages in a speech recently," Aquilino Gonell pounced on the opportunity.

"These are the people who say they are pro-law enforcement and in support of police," he began. "I was assaulted by more than 40 people on January 6th. You know, it's recorded. It's on video. It is on pictures. Those are the ones that I mainly go to the courts to give my statement and also to testify."

"Just right before Christmas, one guy who -- one writer who assaulted me, injured my hand, he tried to -- he tried to tell the judge he didn't assault me when it was clearly on video," he recalled. "These are violent people. Whether they were violent before January 6th, I don't care. Whether they were good people or not, they did it on January 6th; They were showing me who they were."

"That's the reason why I go to the court, to hold them accountable," he continued. "Whenever they get in front of the judge and claim — ask for leniency because they have a family, because they have a kid, because they're too old, because they're too frail, because they have PTSD, because they are former members of the military, a veteran like myself, well, they should have thought about those things before they committed those crimes before they assaulted me and my colleagues."

"I took the same oath that they did, and, yet, that did not make me remove myself from doing my duty and my job on January 6th," he added.
