San Rafael homicide victim identified
The victim in a deadly assault this week at a San Rafael apartment has been identified.
Olivia Lucia Beltran Pacheco, 55, was named Wednesday by the coroner’s division of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. She was stabbed late Monday at an apartment complex on Cresta Way in north San Rafael.
Her daughter, Tonantzyn Beltran, 28, was arrested on suspicion of murder. She is now in custody at the Marin County Jail and she is being held without bail.
Police and firefighters were notified about a fight and a possible stabbing around 5 p.m. at the Highlands of Marin apartment complex, near Smith Ranch Road.
Police arrived to find the suspect on the rear balcony of an apartment. Her clothes were “soaked in blood” and the wounded woman was next to her, said police Sgt. Justin Graham.
Police forced their way into the apartment through the front door and detained the suspect while firefighters gave medical aid to her mother. Paramedics took the victim to a hospital. She was pronounced dead there about 90 minutes later.
The incident was broadcast by the suspect via Facebook Live, the San Rafael police said. The video was later removed at the request of authorities, they said.
Social media video also captured the suspect’s visit to to a Santa Rosa police station to retrieve a towed vehicle on the day of the homicide, the San Rafael police said. Authorities are examining the video and in-house footage of the encounter, police said.
The victim was a community activist who assisted immigrants and residents in San Rafael’s Canal neighborhood. She worked as an outreach coordinator and bilingual associate director at the Canal Welcome Center, and as an organizer for the Grassroots Leadership Network of Marin. She also worked as a loan assistant at Marin County Federal Credit Union, according to an online resume.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in Marin County Superior Court on Thursday, according to court records.
