Downtown Portland hotel sued for $15K in unpaid laundry bills
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Moxy Portland Downtown — a 12-story Marriott hotel that opened at the intersection of 10th Avenue and Alder Street in 2021 — is facing litigation from a Portland-based laundry company, which claims the hotel breached its contract by failing to pay for nearly $15,000 in laundry services between March and April of 2022.
The plaintiff Five Star Laundry is seeking $14,526.79 for the allegedly unpaid laundry bills, plus interest at a rate of 18% per year dating back to April 10, 2022. Five Star Laundry filed the suit on March 22 against the owner of the hotel 10th And Alder Hotel, LLC, which is owned by the Minneapolis-based company Graves Hospitality, according to state business records.
“The plaintiff kept and faithfully performed its part of the agreement, however, the defendant has failed to pay the balance due,” the lawsuit states.
According to the lawsuit, the companies entered into a written agreement on Dec. 21, 2020, which outlined rates for the washing of hotel blankets, comforters, covers sheets, mattress pads, pillows, rags, robes, tablecloths, rubber mats and shower curtains. The contract, the lawsuit states, also entitles Five Star Laundry to any reasonable attorney’s fees accrued as a result of the ongoing lawsuit.
KOIN 6 reached out to Marriott, Graves Hospitality and Five Star Laundry’s attorney Brittany Sullivan for comment on the suit but did not receive a response.
