My parents charge me £400 rent but ‘moan’ & tell me to be ‘considerate’ about bills – it’s their fault for having 4 kids
A PERSON has revealed that their parents charge them £400 a month in rent, but ‘moan’ about their 15-minute daily showers.
The disgruntled child explained that their mother and father have told them to be more ‘considerate’, in an attempt to keep the bills down.
But the unhappy person wasn’t thrilled with the situation, and took to community sharing platform Mumsnet, posting under the username @tryinghere, to open up about the issue.
The user asked Mumsent users if they were being ‘unreasonable’, as the post read: “I live at home, I work full-time and I’m doing an online course.
“I pay £100 a week contribution and I am moaned at for spending about 15 minutes a day in the shower.
“Admittedly one day I was in there for half an hour and accepted that I was in there for a long time.
“I was asked to be more considerate and I did, but, I have reduced it to 15 minutes a day and that’s still too long.”
The user claimed that their parents say it is ‘not necessary’ to have such long showers, and the rest of the family are attempting to make ‘sacrifices’ to keep bills down.
The Mumsnet user claimed: “Apparently it’s not necessary to be in there that long and the rest of the family make sacrifices and go without only showering every other day and using sink and flannel in between, I hate this.
“My parents don’t have a lot of money but they do have four children and my mum chooses to stay at home meaning she chooses that we make sacrifices.
“As the oldest, I’m the only one paying my way and don’t feel it’s unreasonable to shower for 15 minutes a day.
“I get my parents choose not to so they can save money but I pay them a lot.
“Do I stand my ground on this one and shower away or is 15 minutes over the top for £100 a week?”
Mumsnet users were keen to take to the comments, sharing their honest thoughts on the situation.
NOT IMPRESSED
Many thought that the user’s showers were ‘ridiculously long’, whilst others told the child to ‘move out’ if they weren’t happy.
One person said: “15 minutes is a ridiculously long time to spend in the shower.”
To this, the user replied: “Okay, I didn’t think it was excessive but I don’t know how long people take on average.”
If you can’t accept their rules..Move out

Another added: “Too long. There would be no hot water left in our boiler for anyone else if you were that long at my house.”
A third commented: “It only takes about five minutes to have a good wash in the shower. Are you washing your hair every day too?”
Average shower length
THREE in 10 adults have changed their shower habits in a bid to save money – with some even washing with their partner.
Researchers found 30% are curtailing their showering habits as the cost-of-living crisis bites, with 27% worried about how their hygiene routine is impacting bills.
A third of those cutting back are even turning off the water when it’s not needed – such as when conditioning hair – and 11% now use dry shampoo instead of washing.
Yet, the typical adult still has six showers a week, lasting an average of eight minutes each time – with three quarters claiming anything longer than 10 minutes is “too long” to spend in the shower.
At the same time, someone else claimed: “If you can’t accept their rules..Move out and have the 30 min showers you want.”
Whilst another user chimed in: “£100 a week is nothing if you think what it would cost to live in your own place.”
Meanwhile, one Mumsent user simply penned: “You sound horribly entitled.”
