Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to combat terrorism in Afghanistan, according to a joint statement released after the 23rd annual Russia–India summit.
The statement highlighted the importance of the “Moscow format” as a platform for close collaboration on Afghanistan security issues, reflecting growing concern over regional stability.
Both leaders welcomed ongoing counterterrorism measures targeting international extremist groups, including ISIS-Khorasan and affiliated organizations, expressing confidence that efforts in Afghanistan will be effective and comprehensive.
They also stressed the urgent need to ensure uninterrupted humanitarian aid to the Afghanistan population, underscoring the worsening humanitarian situation in the country.
President Putin arrived in India on 4 December and received a warm welcome from Prime Minister Modi. Ahead of his visit, he acknowledged that Afghanistan faces unique challenges under its current governance.
The joint statement reflects broader diplomatic efforts by Russia and India to stabilize Afghanistan through a combination of counterterrorism, humanitarian support, and regional dialogue.
