Local businesses unite to address OKC Animal Shelter crowding
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Local businesses are stepping up to help the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter after its call for community support in helping find 60 dogs new homes and lessen the shelter's overcrowding problem.
A local nonprofit, Be King Rescue Dogs, is said to be sponsoring all canine adoptions from the Animal Shelter on Saturday, July 19, intending to promote adoptions and help new pet owners save towards pet supplies and training.
Another business, Paleteria El Paisano, an ice cream shop based in Oklahoma City, has also teamed up in the effort by donating 100 ice pops for those who attend the Pups and Popsicles event held this weekend.
"Our community has shown that every effort, no matter how small, can make a significant impact," said Ronnie Schlabs, Oklahoma City Animal Welfare Superintendent. "We are incredibly grateful to Be Kind Rescue Dogs for sponsoring all canine adoptions this Saturday, and to Paleteria El Paisano for their generous donation of 100 ice pops for our Pups and Popsicles event. Whether you're a business, a rescue partner, or simply someone who cares, there's always a way to support pet adoptions and save lives."
Those looking to help give these pups their forever home, Pups and Popsicles, will be held Saturday, July 19, from 11 a.m. until noon at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter.
Though the Pups and Popsicles event runs only until noon, pet adoptions will continue until 5 p.m. Saturday.
According to the City of Oklahoma City, all dogs adopted from the Animal Shelter are spayed or neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed, are current on vaccinations and preventatives, and come with an ID tag and collar. Local veterinarians also offer free medical visits to those who have adopted and show their adoption papers.
