Halloween traditions both new and old are merging at Woodbriar Assisted Living, where residents and staff celebrated their annual trick-or-treat event for the fourth consecutive year.
The event invites students from any school throughout Acadiana to visit, bringing laughter and excitement to the residents as more than 130 children filled the hallways during Halloween week. “We are having a Halloween event today with the kids. It is a chance for our residents to share stories, enjoy treats, and feel the spirit of the community in a fun and lighthearted way.” Caldwell said.
Residents and staff dressed in festive Halloween attire as they handed out candy to students from over ten schools who visited during the two-day celebration. Many residents expressed that the event is something they eagerly anticipate each year because it helps them feel youthful and connected to their community.
Resident Maggie Domainge shared her delight, recalling a playful interaction with one of the visiting children.
“It’s nice to see them having fun and getting a treat. I told one, ‘I want a trick,’ and he said, ‘what?’ I told him you said, ‘trick or treat,’ and I would like to have the ‘trick’ please.” Domainge said.
The Woodbriar Assisted Living Halloween event continues to grow each year, strengthening the bond between generations and reminding everyone that the spirit of the holiday lies not only in costumes and candy but in shared moments of joy and togetherness.
