Shough leads New Orleans to win over Carolina
NEW ORLEANS, La. (KLFY) -- Tyler Shough led the New Orleans Saints to a 17-7 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, ending a four-game losing streak.
Shough threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns, a significant performance for the rookie quarterback in his second NFL start.
His 62-yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave was the second-longest by a rookie in Saints history, just behind Archie Manning's 63-yard pass in 1971.
Shough's performance included a 19-for-27 completion rate, with no interceptions and a passer rating of 128.9.
He also connected on a 30-yard touchdown pass to Juwan Johnson to help seal the divisional win on the road. It marked the first time in Saints franchise history that a rookie quarterback and head coach duo secured a win.
Additionally, Shough is the first rookie QB to win for the Saints since Dave Wilson in 1981.
The Panthers, who had won four of their last five games, were unable to overcome the Shough's best performance of the season thus far.
New Orleans will head into their bye week before hosting the Atlanta Falcons on November 23.
