Washburn football has all eyes set on conference play

0

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Washburn football opens up MIAA conference play this week on the road in Edmond, Oklahoma, as the Ichabods will matchup against the No. 15 Broncos.

Washburn is looking to snap its losing streak after dropping its second loss of the season last week to the Colorado School of Mines, 41-27.

As the 'Bods enter conference play, the competition will only start heating up from here. The Bronocs were picked to finish first in the preseason polls, with Washburn picked to finish ninth.

"The good thing about it is our non-conference teams were as good as any MIAA team we are going to play, Washburn head football coach Zach Watkins said. "UCO is no different, moving into conference play against another ranked team, that's what the MIAA is.

Watkins said you want to play the best and be one of the best teams in the conference.

Game time is set for 7 p.m. CST at Chad Richison Stadium. Then Washburn is back at home inside Yager Stadium on Sept. 27.
