Marysville man who claimed God told him to kill father ruled incompetent to stand trial
MARYSVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) – A Marysville man who claimed God told him to kill is father has been ruled temporarily incompetent to stand trial.
According to court records, Micaiah Swindler has been deemed incompetent to stand trial after he allegedly stabbed and killed his father on April 21 in the 1400 block of Meadowlark Lane. For a previous report on this story view the video player above.
Marysville police arrived at the north Marsyville home just after 12:30 p.m. after responding to a call from Swindler, who told a 911 operator, “I’m not gonna lie, I just killed my father.” When asked why he attacked his father, Swindler reportedly said, “God told me to.”
Swindler, 27, was placed in custody and taken to Tri-County Regional Jail, where he was being held on a $1 million bond. On Thursday, a Marysville Court of Common Pleas judge ordered an NGRI evaluation to assess the suspects’ competency and it was agreed that the post-evaluation report Swindler is not presently competent to stand trial.
The judge also ruled that Swindler undergo continued competency restoration evaluation and treatment in accordance with the law at the Timothy B. Moritz Maximum Security Forensic Unit of Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare for a period that shall not exceed one year.
Psychologists and other medical personnel will also file reports with the court as to when Swindler is capable of understanding the nature and objectives of the proceedings against him and in assisting in his defense.
A future status hearing has not yet been scheduled according to court records.
