Flags ordered to be flown at half-staff in Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered U.S. and Ohio flags to be flown at half-staff.
In honor of the life and service of former state Representative Jack Cera, DeWine has ordered the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio to be lowered upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Belmont, Jefferson, Monroe, Noble, and Washington counties as well as at the Ohio Statehouse, Vern Riffe Center, and Rhodes Tower.
The flags will be lowered from sunrise to sunset on Saturday for his funeral. All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may fly the flags of the United States and the State of Ohio at half-staff at their discretion for the same time period.
Cera served in the Ohio House from 1983 to 1996 and from 2011 to 2020, and died on July 13 at age 69 after a two-year battle with cancer.
In a statement, Ohio Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Clyde said Cera was "known in the legislature as an experienced leader who cared about and respected the General Assembly deeply, never losing sight of what it meant to represent his community in Columbus."
"Whether he was working to build our state’s infrastructure, advocating for greater transparency in government, or fighting for good-paying jobs, Jack was a tireless advocate for Southeast Ohio," said Clyde. "I'm thinking of his family and everyone who knew him during this time."
