How Simone Biles' Husband Jonathan Owens Changed the Conversation Around Their Marriage
At the 2025 ESPY Awards on July 16, Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, looked like one of the hottest couples on the red carpet.
The Chicago Bears safety made sure the GOAT of gymnastics was front and center while he adjusted the train on her stunning Athleta by Zac Posen gown. Bustle shared the cute video on Instagram, and fans swooned while Owens fluffed the fabric for the best photo opportunity and smoothed out her bangs.
Things weren’t always like this, though — at least in terms of public perception. Biles’ supporters remember his awkward interview in December 2023 on The Pivot when he talked about not knowing who she was before they began dating.
“When she won the Olympics, I was in college, and we didn’t have NBC, we didn’t have Olympics channels, and we were in [training] camp in late July, early August,” Owens claimed. “So, I’m not paying attention. I never had a moment where I would have watched [her perform].”
Then, Owens sealed his fate when he remarked that he was “the catch” in their relationship. Biles’ fans went hard after him because they adored the Olympian so much and felt protective of her. Still, Biles remained strong by his side, revealing to the Call Her Daddy podcast in April 2024 that she was “really hurt” by the backlash.
“I’m like, ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this?’ You don’t know him. You don’t know who he is,” Biles said. “If anybody’s met him, they know he’s the sweetest guy and will do anything for anybody. Talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family.”
Biles went into defensive mode, and Owens made sure to prove everyone wrong at the Summer Games in Paris. He received permission to leave the Chicago Bears training camp to see his wife win gold — again — while he sported a T-shirt with her face all across his chest.
Owens continued love for his wife is evident, and it’s clear The Pivot was a one-off event — a bad day at the office. Biles let everyone know at the Netflix docuseries, Simone Biles Rising, Part 2 premiere in October 2024 that her man was her “comfort person” every time she needed to “lock in” at the Olympics.
Owens showed up for Biles, and now it’s her turn to support him out on the football field.
