Two-time Pro Bowl player Jaylon Johnson is one of four Bears players who won’t be ready for the start of training camp.
The cornerback was put on the non-football injury list Saturday with an undisclosed injury. So were three others others — backup quarterback Case Keenum, running back Ian Wheeler and wide receiver Jahdae Walker.
The NFI list is reserved for players who are injured or fall ill away from the team. They must be removed from the list in order to practice.
The Bears won’t hold their first practice until Wednesday morning. Rookies and quarterbacks reported to Halas Hall on Saturday. The Bears officially signed their three second-round picks after agreeing to deals with them earlier this week.
Johnson said on "The Rich Eisen Show" earlier this week that he was looking forward to proving himself again this season and commented on the spate of high-profile cornerback contracts handed out recently. Johnson signed his four-year contract extension in March 2024 but said "I almost feel like we might have to have another discussion coming up soon."
Johnson earned his second straight Pro Bowl nod last year after intercepting two passes and playing in all 17 games. Johnson participated in some of the Bears’ offseason program and was allowed to travel home for personal reasons. He held a football camp at Lane Tech last week.
