Tottenham player emerges as number one target for Club World Cup semi-finalists
A transfer battle for one Tottenham star is raging this summer, and one Club World Cup semi-finalist has now entered the picture in a meaningful way.
Richarlison’s phone has been ringing regularly over the last few days as clubs from Brazil battle each other to secure his services.
On Wednesday, it emerged that the Palmeiras president is in negotiations with Tottenham over Richarlison and that the club had also been speaking to the 28-year-old to convince him to join.
The update claimed that Palmeiras were hopeful that they had the resources to land the Spurs striker, given the big prize money they had earned at the Club World Cup.
Richarlison is now Fluminense’s number one target
According to a report in Terra, Fluminense are now stepping up their pursuit of the former Everton man.
With winger Jhon Arias on his way to Wolves, they have identified Richarlison as their number one target to replace the Colombian forward.
Fluminense’s president, Mario Bittencourt, has spoken to the Tottenham Hotspur man about the club’s project, and he is trying to use the player’s emotional connection with the club to convince him to return.
It was at the Rio de Janeiro club that Richarlison first made his name before earning a move to the Premier League in 2017, and even though Fluminense know that the operation to bring him back is ‘complex’, they are ready to step up efforts to do so.
Would Richarlison be open to a return to Brazil?
What is interesting in these reports is that they emphasise that Fluminense and Palmeiras are working to convince Richarlison about a return to Brazil.
That suggests that the Tottenham man is not overly keen on returning to his home country and would prefer to continue playing in Europe.
That ties in with an update from Sky Sports two weeks ago, which claimed that Richarlison wants to be part of the Thomas Frank project at Spurs.
The report asserted that the striker feels he has not been able to showcase his best in a Tottenham shirt due to his injury troubles and has the desire to put that right.
