Thomas Frank reacts to Daniel Levy’s aim for Tottenham to win Premier League and Champions League
Thomas Frank is pleased that Daniel Levy has set his sights on winning the biggest trophies in the game, but the Tottenham head coach admits that there is one thing that the Lilywhites would have to do if that is to be a realistic aim.
Tottenham Hotspur have been proactive so far in the transfer window, completing a permanent deal for Mathys Tel before securing Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus.
According to reports, Spurs are confident that they will get a deal for Morgan Gibbs-White over the line, which would be a statement of ambition by the club.
It looks like the club’s owners are finally putting the money where their mouth is after Levy admitted that Tottenham want to win the Premier League and the Champions League.
Thomas Frank shares Daniel Levy’s Tottenham ambitions
Frank insisted that he shares the Spurs supremo’s ambition, insisting that a club of Tottenham’s size should have their eye on the biggest prizes.
However, the Dane conceded that it might not be realistic to expect the Lilywhites to win the Premier League during the upcoming season, insisting that at least three clubs are ahead of Spurs at the moment.
When asked about Levy’s declaration, Frank told Football.London: “I share his ambitions for the club. A club of this size should have that ambition. How far away we are is probably very difficult to say, but we should throw it forward and go for it.
“No doubt that needs to be the aim for the future. What are the odds for us winning the Premier League this season? I’m not allowed to gamble either… so I think we’re probably not the favourites. Probably three teams at least ahead of us, but we will do what we can to build a strong and competitive team.”
Frank admits Tottenham need more signings to compete
Reports indicate that Spurs are far from done strengthening their squad this summer, despite the big moves they have made early in the window.
According to some sources, Frank wants reinforcements in three more areas before the start of the new season. The Dane has now conceded that a big squad is a prerequisite to compete on all fronts.
When asked if Spurs need more signings if they are to fulfil Levy’s ambition, Frank responded: “No doubt if you want to compete in all tournaments, you need a competitive squad, a robust squad. There are a lot of competitive players in the squad. It’s an exciting squad.
“There’s no doubt the club is in the market and looking. I would like to speak when a player comes in and not about the market. It’s always a balance, the squad size, how big, how small should it be to compete.
“I know Tottenham. I know the players, I’ve seen a lot, but I need to know them one-to-one, need to train them and get input every single day about them to give me more knowledge. But if you want to compete, you need to use the squad well.”
