I’m a savvy shopper & rate UK supermarkets – Asda is the worst for your weekly shop & everyone agrees
A SAVVY shopper has shared her list of the best and worst supermarkets in the UK, and the loser will surprise you.
Candace is an American woman living in the UK, and says Asda is the worst of the lot if you’re doing a weekly shop.
Posting her thoughts online, she ranked English supermarkets based on selection, organic product and food quality.
In the clip, she says: “If you’re new to the UK and figuring out the whole grocery store thing, let me break it down for you in a way that kind of makes sense to me.”
Candace begins with the luxury stores.
“First up is Waitrose, which is kind of the higher end grocery store here,” she says. “There’s a lot of jokes about it being a very posh place but honestly they do really high quality, good food.
“If you’re looking for really good soups and ready meals, it’s really good, but I would get your essentials from somewhere else because they’ll be the same quality.
“They do really, really good rotisserie chicken. It’s so niche, but go to their rotisserie chicken section and go nowhere else.”
Next up is M&S.
“This is still a bit boujiee but they’re pushing sales and being more of an everyday grocery store,” she says.
“I’ve seen things cheaper in there than at Sainsbury’s, so it’s a great boujiee-food-on-a-budget store for really good meals.”
“Go to M&S for baked goods.”
Candace marks Tesco and Sainsbury’s together as everyday grocery stores.
“Sainsbury’s I will say has an amazing organic range and it’s super affordable, too,” she says. “Sometimes it’s cheaper than the non-organic food.
Then she comes to Asda – and it’s a big surprise.
“I’ve got a lot of good home things from Asda but in terms of food I find that Sainsbury’s, M&S and Waitrose have a better selection.”
Out of the super budget stores, Candace says Lidl outshines the lot.
“Lidl seems to have the best food selection of them all,” she says. “And they have really good desserts, falafel and cheese.”
One user replied: “As a British person, I’d say you’ve got all this spot on.”
A second agreed: “Asda food is horrible in my opinion. It seems to go bad sooo much quicker than everywhere else.”
And a third said: “Asda is feral.”
