The humanitarian truce between Baku and Yerevan in Nagorno-Karabakh will enter into force at 08:00 local time (07:00 Moscow time) on October 26. This is stated in a joint statement of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the United States, the text is published on the website of the State Department.
“The United States contributed to intensive negotiations between the foreign ministers and the co-chairs of the Minsk Group in order to bring Armenia and Azerbaijan closer to a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” it says.
According to the State Department, on October 24, Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Jeyhun Bayramov met with US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Bigan. Yerevan and Baku “reaffirmed their commitment to the implementation of the ceasefire agreement for humanitarian purposes,” the ministry said.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have already agreed twice on a ceasefire, exchange of prisoners and bodies of those killed. The first stage of the talks took place in Moscow on October 10, with the participation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The second time the heads of the foreign ministers agreed on a ceasefire by telephone on October 17. In both cases, the sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire and continued fighting.
