The United States threatened Turkey with sanctions for the purchase of Russian S-400
The United States has threatened Turkey with a growing threat of imposing sanctions for the purchase of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM). This was stated by the Assistant Secretary of State for Military and Political Affairs Clark Cooper, reports TASS.
The risk of taking action against Turkey under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) has significantly increased over the past year, he said.
Earlier it was reported that the United States decided to sell the F-35 fighters intended for Turkey to its enemy – Greece. Greek media claim that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo flew to Athens to discuss this issue. In total, it is planned to deliver 20 vehicles, 6 of which were previously intended for Ankara. Greece will also purchase six Rafale fighters from France.
