Czech President spoke about Russian spies operating in the country

Czech President Milos Zeman demanded that the local counterintelligence – the Security and Information Service (SBI) – find Russian spies in the country. Writes about this “Czech Radio” with reference to high-ranking sources.

Zeman demanded to tell him what operations in the Czech Republic are carried out by the Russian special services, and what kind of threat it poses to the country. He also wanted to find out information about who cooperates with these people and what data is transmitted to them. The country’s leader believes that the SBI may also find evidence of the work of people associated with Moscow in money laundering.

Press Secretary of the President Jiří Ovčáček said he did not know about these instructions, RIA Novosti notes. He added that the head of the Czech Republic has the right to demand any information from the local special services. Experts interviewed by RIA Novosti questioned the possibility of preparing documents of this kind.

In 2018, it was reported that the Czech Republic had uncovered and liquidated the intelligence network of one of the Russian special services. Czech President Milos Zeman then criticized the annual counterintelligence report. He said that in the open part, the department writes about many Russian and Chinese spies, while in the closed part it has not been reported even once in six years. Moscow has denied information about the spy network.
