Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova announced January 18 as the date for the start of mass vaccination against coronavirus in Russia. RIA Novosti reported about it on Wednesday, January 13.
“By the end of January, that is, for use by the population, 2.1 million doses of the vaccine will be received, and we will seriously need to step up the vaccination campaign,” she said at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
During the meeting, the head of state instructed to start mass vaccination of all Russians. He instructed the government to prepare the necessary infrastructure. The President noted the effectiveness of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, and also pointed out that the drug does not require special transportation conditions.
Vaccination of certain groups of citizens started in Russia on December 5. First of all, teachers and medical workers decided to vaccinate, later the list was supplemented with new categories of citizens. So, on January 11, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the extension of the vaccination campaign to scientists, managers and social workers from non-profit organizations.
Sputnik V is the world’s first registered vaccine based on the human adenovirus vector platform. At the end of December, the Russian Ministry of Health approved its use for vaccination of people over 60 years old.
