In the near future, a water pipeline will be launched in Sevastopol to provide stable water supply in drought; another one has already been built in Simferopol, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“We have good news on the water: we will launch another serious water pipeline in Sevastopol in the near future. We already have one water conduit in Simferopol ready. That is, these are water conduits that will allow us to guarantee water supply in dry times, ”said Mr. Khusnullin on the First Channel.
Earlier on March 15, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that the Russian government will allocate more than 3 billion rubles for the search for new deposits of drinking groundwater in the Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as for the modernization of their water supply networks. In autumn, the government has already allocated almost 5 billion rubles for water supply in Crimea.
After the annexation of Crimea to Russia in 2014, Ukraine stopped supplying water to the republic. Previously, Kiev provided up to 85% of the peninsula’s needs for fresh water through the North Crimean Canal. Simferopol, Yalta, Alushta and settlements near these cities were transferred to water supply schedules. This is due to the low water observed in Crimea in 2019–2020.
