9 passengers injured when SF streetcar crashes into Muni bus

A vintage streetcar rear-ended a Muni bus on Market Street in San Francisco Wednesday afternoon, injuring nine passengers and causing police to close part of the busy thoroughfare at the start of the afternoon commute, officials said.

The crash occurred when an F-line streetcar collided with a 6 Ferry Plaza bus about 2 p.m. on Market, between Eighth and Ninth streets, said Lt. Jonathan Baxter of the San Francisco Fire Department.

Passengers riding on both vehicles were hurt. Nine adults had minor injuries and eight were transported to nearby hospitals, Baxter added.

The fire department issued a yellow alert, which directs more medical assistance to the incident, Baxter said.
