The ruling class: Stanford seniors shoot for 3rd straight national soccer title
When Bryce Marion was being recruited by Stanford, the senior midfielder said head coach Jeremy Gunn told him, “We’ll win a national championship here, and you’re going to want to be a part of it.”
Marion said Gunn “guaranteed me.” He added, “Gunn’s the type of guy who means what he says.”
Gunn — nobody on the team calls him “coach,” just “Gunn” — doesn’t recall making that promise to Marion. But if he did, he was right — twice. Maybe even three times. The two-time defending national champions are back in the College Cup and will play Akron on Friday night in the semifinals in Philadelphia.
