[Williamson] Myers Named Co-ESSL Player of the Year
Junior fullback Luke Myers (JR/Plymouth Meeting, PA) was named 2017 Co-ESSL Player of the Year by the league. Myers, along with seniors Ryan Haines (SR/Aston, PA), Justin Daehling (SR/North Cape May, NJ) and Shai Eis (SR/Philadelphia, PA), fellow junior Chris Smith (JR/Tullahoma, TN) and freshman Thomas Vieyra (FR/Mays Landing, NJ) were named to the 2017 All Eastern States Soccer League (ESSL) All Conference team.
A standout who play on the back line was dominating, Myers excelled in each game throughout the year for the Mechanics. His inspired play helped lead Williamson to their third straight outright ESSL title. He also was recently named a 2017 USCAA Academic All-American, as well. He was named Co-Player of the Year along with Zach Morrill from Central Penn.
Haines capped a brilliant career as a three-year starter in goal for the Mechanics. Some of his saves over the years have become legendary. A team captain this year, he finished in the Top 10 in the nation the past two years in Save Percentage in the USCAA. He is a three-time USCAA Academic All-American (twice for soccer, once for tennis) and leaves as one of the all-time great soccer players in Williamson history.
Daehling was known as Mr. Clutch for the Mechanics. While his play was always top-notch, he saved his best performances big games, as witnessed by his hat trick in last year's ESSL championship game and his game clinching goal in this year's final. No one will be happier to see him graduate than Central Penn!
Eis was Mr. Versatility for Williamson throughout his career. While a natural midfielder, he also played forward and at the end of the season was stating at fullback. He finished 2017 with three goals and one assist.
An All ESSL selection in 2016 as a freshman, Smith finished one goal shy of the freshman record last year with 11 goals. This year, teams were wise to him but he still accounted for six goals and seven assists for a total of a team high 19 points. He was a team captain and also was the #1 Singles player for the Williamson tennis team last Spring.
Vieyra played last season for the team and did well however, he left school at mid-year to be able to re-enroll in a different major as a freshman this year. He was a big part of the team's success this year as h stared all 16 games for Williamson. He added three goals and two assists, with one of his goals being a game winner.
Williamson closed out their season as the 2017 ESSL champions, defeating Central Penn, 4-2 in this year's final.
