Pej's Offseason Plan (I promise you won't be disappointed)
Outside of the signing of Petit and the Ryon Healy trade, it's been a very slow offseason for A's fans so far. The team seems dead set on committing to a young core centered around Matt Chapman and Matt Olson. They're unlikely to make any huge splashes. But what if I told you there was a clear path to constructing a roster that would make the A's the most entertaining sports team of 2018?
- Moves -
Trade 2B Jed Lowrie to NYM for SP Matt Harvey and 3B Matt Reynolds
Not gonna be a popular suggestion, but it really wasn't long ago that The Dark Knight terrorized opposing batters. High risk, high reward. He gives us a relatively cheap chance at an ace, and with the other moves below, Jed becomes expendable. Reynolds is icing on the cake.
Trade OF Chad Pinder and 2B Franklin Barreto to TB for SP Matt Andriese and 3B Matt Duffy
Controllable starter, big upside play. Duffy to irk Giants fans. Chad Pinder just simply isn't a fit for this team.
Trade SP Daniel Gosset to ATL for OF Matt Kemp
Great veteran presence for our young boys.
Sign OF Matt Angle
Same reasoning as Kemp trade.
Trade SP Sean Manaea to WSH for C Matt Wieters and P Matt Grace
4 x All Star. Grace has only worked in the bullpen in the majors so far but I believe he has the stuff to start.
Trade OF Khris Davis to SFG for SP Matt Moore and cash
Giants need power and we need Matts.
Sign SP Matt Cain
He's retired but once he sees what we're building here in Oakland there's no way he could say no.
With these additions, and our core of Matt Chapman, Matt Olson and Matt Joyce, we can now field a team like this:
C: Matt Wieters
1B: Matt Olson
2B: Matt Duffy
3B: Matt Chapman
SS: Matt Reynolds
OF: Matt Joyce, Matt Kemp, Matt Angle
P: Matt Harvey, Matt Moore, Matt Andriese, Matt Grace, Matt Cain
Think about the platoon opportunities! I was thinking something along the lines of the following:
vs RHP
Matt

vs LHP

Taking suggestions for a DH (no Holliday pls) and relief pitchers.
