Danes nearly topple giant
Ranked fourth nationally in the latest mid-major basketball poll, the University at Albany faced its first test Tuesday night against a major program.
It was an opportunity lost.
Memphis used its advantage in size and athleticism to force 14 UAlbany turnovers and block 11 shots to take down the Great Danes 67-58 in a nonconference game at the FedExForum.
The loss was only the second of the season for UAlbany (10-2), but this was a clear step up in the caliber of opposition.
"In a game like this, we gave up too many easy baskets off turnovers, and they were careless turnovers," Danes coach Will Brown said in his postgame radio interview.
