Cole Guttman opened the scoring early in the 2nd period and Golden Knight prospect Jack Dugan (Providence commit) scored the game winner with 32 seconds remaining to lift the USA U19 team over the Canada West U19 squad by a score of 2-1. Ross Armour (undrafted, Bemidji State commit) tallied for Canada West a scant 35 seconds after the Guttman marker, as the game was untied a total of 67 seconds in the match. Jake Kucharski (2018 draft eligible, Providence commit) outdueled Canadian goalie Zach Rose (undrafted) for the win. With the Preliminary matches concluded, the Czech Republic U19 paced Group B with a 2-0 record, USA U19 finished 1-1, and Canada West U19 completed with a 0-2 record.
In Group B action, the Russia U18 squeaked a 3-2 victory over the Swiss U18 team. With the win, Russia paced Group B with a 2-0 record, Canada East U19 finished 1-1, and the Swiss youngsters ended with a 0-2 record.
The quarterfinals kick off Wednesday with USA U19 taking on the Swiss U18 club, and the two Canadian teams East U19 and West U19 squaring off. Russia U18 and Czech Republic U19 earned quarterfinal byes by virtue of winning their respective Groups.
