Gunmen kill PDP chieftain 24 hours after party’s national convention
- The Bayelsa state police command Asimin Butswat has confirmed the death of the state former commissioner Ayakeme Masa
- Masa was reportedly shot dead by gunmen in Yenagoa area of the state
- Butswat said a team of policemen from the command has visited the scene and commenced investigation into the incident
A former commissioner Ayakeme Masa has reportedly been shot dead by gunmen in Yenagoa area of Bayelsa state.
Daily Sun reports that Masa, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was shot in the early hours of Sunday, December 10, in his residence.
The PDP chieftain died at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa Monday evening, December 11.

According to investigations, the alleged killers had visited his residence for undisclosed reasons and they were in the midst of an argument with Masa when the deceased walked in.
Sources close to the family said that immediately Masa saw the gunmen, he tried to escape but he was shot.

The state police command Asimin Butswat confirmed the incident.
Butswat said a team of policemen from the command visited the scene and commenced investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly killed three people and abducted ten others in Niger state.
That the incident occurred along Kaduna-Sarkin-Pawa road in Munya local government area of the state.
