Why one Spurs defender will have to be very careful against Brighton

Jan Vertonghen will have to be very careful when Chris Hughton’s Brighton visit Wembley on Wednesday night.

That’s because the Belgian is one booking away from a suspension, and Tottenham can’t afford to lose him for the weekend trip to Manchester City.

Spurs are already down to just two centre-backs. Davinson Sanchez is still two games away from returning following his ban, while Toby Alderweireld will be sidelined through injury until February.

Mauricio Pochettino has suggested Cameron Carter-Vickers could be recalled from his loan spell with Championship side Sheffield United in January.
