Giants update: Outfield options remain after Ozuna goes to Cardinals

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Giants never told us they felt they had a good shot at landing Marlins left fielder Marcell Ozuna. Nor did they say they had little shot, but now we know the latter was true.

The Marlins agreed Wednesday to trade the right-hander masher to the Cardinals for a package of prospects that reportedly includes right-handed pitcher Sandy Alcantra, a 22-year-old right-hander who throws gas and has struck out a batter an inning in the minors.

I heard Wednesday that the Giants knew from their discussions with the Marlins on Giancarlo Stanton that they did not match up with Miami on a potential deal for Ozuna. They do not have an Alcantra.
