Just in: Boko Haram strikes Adamawa town on New Year day, kill 3 as residents escape
Three residents of a community in Madagali Local Governmet Area of Adamawa reportedly lost their lives in a bomb attack on Monday, January 1, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The report said the bomb was planted on a road side in the town and that Othman Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Adamawa police command, confirmed the development but said only one person was killed.

Abubakar added that the command was still gathering information for full details.
The report further said the executive secretary of the Adamawa state Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Mr Haruna Furo, confirmed the incidence.
“I received a call from Madagali LGA council chairman about the incidence but due to poor network the conversation cut off.
“I tried several times to reach him but it failed,” Furo said adding that the agency was yet to get clear details of the attack.

The Nigerian army announced this in a statement released on Monday, January 1 and signed by Colonel Timothy Antigha, the deputy director, public relations of the 8 Division of the Nigerian army.
The statement read: "Over 700 farmers, fishermen and members of their families who were hitherto held by Boko Haram terrorists as farm workers have fled the various islands in Lake Chad to Monguno."
