Breaking: Buhari, northern Nigeria mourns as top elderstatesman Lawal Kaita dies
Alhaji Lawal Kaita, an elderstatesman in the northern part of Nigeria and former Governor of old Kaduna state, has died.
Kaita, a blood relation of the late former President Umar Musa Yar'Adua and member of royal family of Nagogo, traditional rulers of the Emirate of Katsina, died in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, in the evening of Tuesday, January 2, aged 86.
NAIJ.com gathers that a source disclosed that the former governor would be buried in Katsina state on Wednesday, January 3.
According to another source, the deceased’s family members are expected to arrive to make burial arrangements.
The death of Lawal Kaita has been confirmed by Senator Shehu Sani, who represents a federal district in Kaduna state.
“Alhaji Lawal Kaita. My heartfelt condolences to the family of our former governor. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amin,” he said
Before his death, Kaita was plagued with health challenges, and was admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina for a while.
The Katsina state governor, has lamented over the development.
