Bubba Watson’s nightmare of playing golf in the rain is going to happen at the Masters
Bubba is no fan of mud golf and it’s wet at Augusta on Saturday, soooo … maybe say a little prayer for caddie Ted Scott.
Bubba Watson enters the weekend at 2-under at Augusta and in contention for his third green jacket, but the weather gods may have something to do with which direction the big bopper from Bagdad goes on Moving Day at the Masters.
If the prognosticators are correct, Bubba will tee off at 1:40 p.m. ET under cloudy conditions, which will shortly thereafter take a turn for the worse as rain moves into the area. And that, as Watson-watchers well know, does not bode well for the notorious fair-weather golfer.
”I’m not a history buff, but I’ve never played good in the rain. It always frustrates me … just the water dripping and stuff and keeping my mind at ease. So it’s very difficult for me in the rain, but hopefully it rains enough, or it thunders enough, where we can postpone it to the next day, makes it easier for me … I’ve never won a golf tournament where it rained all the time, so it will be a tough test for me as well.”
Bubba could have been referring to the weather in Georgia, or at any other venue at which he is a competitor. But, no, that was Watson whining about what was coming at the 2017 Genesis Open.
He withdrew from the tournament after carding a 74 in the opening round at Riviera.
Before that, of course, there was the 2014 PGA Championship at soggy Valhalla, when Watson channeled the Wicked Witch of the West and melted down in the rain during the second round.

Bubba finished T64.
The weather was also not to his liking at the WGC-Cadillac Championship in 2015.
Bubba Watson, who has "no chance" playing in rain and "can't stand" the golf course, shares the lead at Doral.

Watson came in third. Then there was the Greenbrier, where he complained to officials to call it off as the rain poured in West Virginia.
Looks like those rain clouds are following Bubba and no one else again today. "Water on the blade, bro!" pic.twitter.com/awhfFDVYVS

We have a library of Bubba moaning and groaning in the rain, yelling at mud balls, and just generally ejecting when skies make things a little uncomfortable.
Which brings us to Saturday at Augusta. While his length and carry off the tee should serve him well on rain-soaked fairways, we’re pretty sure Bubba’s good friend and bagman will pull double duty as caddie and shrink.
So, you know, #PrayForTedScott.
