Court grants appeal of man convicted in repossession killing

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia's Supreme Court says a man convicted of killing another man who was trying to repossess his truck was wrongfully convicted twice for the same crime.

The court on Thursday upheld an appeals court finding that Carroll Edward Gregg was subject to double jeopardy in the 2014 killing of Junior Montero Sanchez.

Gregg, who said the killing was an accident, was convicted of both common law involuntary manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter under Virginia's criminal code.

The appeals courts concluded that Gregg was twice convicted and sentenced in the same trial of the same offense, involuntary manslaughter.
