My annual plug for the Junior League World Series
This is not a Tiger subject, but it is a Detroit-area baseball one, so I think it fits here as well as or better than it does anywhere else. And if the Appropriate Forum Police disagree, maybe they're sleeping in this morning and won't get the vapors over it.
For those who don't know, the Junior League World Series -- for what used to be called Pony League in the Little League world -- is held every August at Heritage Park in Taylor, Michigan. It is for 13 -and 14-year-old players, and is "real" baseball in the sense that leadoffs, pickoff throws from the mound, and regular stealing are allowed, unlike in the lower age groups.
It also features much better baseball than the ridiculously over-hyped Little League World Series in Williamsport.
The games start today, and are scheduled to be played every day through next Sunday, when the championship game is played, with the exception of Friday, which is left open to make up rained-out games.
There are six teams from the USA and six "international" teams from six regions. The US teams play each other to decide a US champion, and the international teams play each other to decide their champion, then the US and international winners play for the overall championship.
Heritage Park is a nice facility, and the Series is a great opportunity to see some high-quality youth baseball for next to nothing.
Just Google "Junior League World Series" for details and the schedule.
