Giants to start life without Buster Posey by promoting prospect

Buster Posey's final act in uniform this season was as anticlimactic as it could get, a short round trip between the Giants dugout and the on-deck circle.

In the eighth inning of a 5-3 victory against the Rangers, Posey was going to bat for Hunter Strickland. When Steven Duggar made the final out, another chapter in Posey's career was complete.

Posey will fly to Colorado on Sunday a day ahead of arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum and shave down bone spurs in his right hip. The surgeon will be Dr. Marc Philippon, who performed the same procedure successfully on Tim Lincecum in 2015.
